The Chemical, Energy, and Mining Workers Union (CEMWU) proudly took part in the workshop “Just Transition: Implementing the Guide of Practice,” initiated by IndustriALL Global Union in collaboration with Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES), held in Bangkok, Thailand, on September 9–10, 2025.
The two-day workshop brought together affiliate unions of IndustriALL from four countries—Indonesia, Singapore, the Philippines, and Thailand—to discuss strategies for addressing the twin challenges of climate change and industrial transformation.
Throughout the sessions, participants actively exchanged experiences and practical approaches to ensure that the transition towards a sustainable economy not only benefits the environment but also safeguards workers’ rights and promotes the creation of decent jobs.
Speaking on behalf of CEMWU, Bung Sulis emphasized the crucial role of collaboration among trade unions, governments, and other stakeholders in shaping inclusive policies. “A just transition is about ensuring that no worker is left behind. We must guarantee that all voices are included in this process,” he stressed.
The workshop also showcased examples of successful initiatives from other countries, offering valuable lessons that could be adapted for the Indonesian context. With a strong spirit of solidarity, participants reaffirmed their commitment to working collectively towards achieving a fair and sustainable transition across the region.
CEMWU expressed hope that the outcomes of this workshop would further strengthen the labor movement in Indonesia and inspire concrete actions in advancing the agenda of a just transition for all workers.
